Playing Catch Up, Again (Part 1)

Once again, I have neglected, forgotten, and rediscovered my blog.  This time it's been a little more than 15 months since I last posted.  Not much improvement.  At least I have a lot to tell!

August - Early November 2014

I was home schooled from kindergarten through my senior year, so I had never been in a "real" classroom.  I still took the majority of my classes online last year, but I did add in government and economics (each 1 semester) at the DODDS high school on base.  I'm really glad I took those classes because I met some awesome people, made a few close friends, and was encouraged by those friends to play soccer and run cross country, both fun experiences.

While cross country is not my favorite sport (I discovered running for the sake of running is just not my thing.), I stuck out the season, improved to the position of 5th runner, and thoroughly enjoyed traveling and socializing with my teammates.  I'm proud of myself for making the team that went to the Far East championship race, and I'm glad I was able to help our girls secure a second place title in the 5K race at Camp Fuji.

November 2014

Soccer pre-season training started soon after cross country ended.  Being a total soccer noob, I figured it was best if I attend regularly and turn my incoordination with a ball into something resembling skill.  Once again, thanks to dedication and the bit of natural athleticism God's given me, I learned quickly and was soon a decent defensive player.  Due to inexperience, my footwork was a bit lacking, but I made up for that with aggressive defense and a "if all else fails, just get that ball" attitude.

December 2014

My family and I went to Hawaii for Christmas.  While I enjoy colder Christmases (kind of strange since I've had only 2 - 3 cold/snowy Christmases), Hawaii was very nice and I enjoyed spending time with my family.  I also had gotten a DSLR camera recently, taken a photography class, and was ready to use and improve my newly learned skills.  I actually got quite a few decent photos on my trip, and might post some pictures in that vague and likely far off, potentially never, "sometime" I have mentioned multiple times in the past (sorry!).  I really should try to put together a favorite pictures post, or series of posts, "one day," though.  Hawaii is gorgeous, and yes, the water is actually that strong, vibrant, blue (sometimes greenish) you see in all the pictures.  And the sunsets!  I'll have to share some sunset pictures.

Anyway, I had a good time on our trip to Hawaii.  While beaches are not my favorite, I did enjoy the various beach and water related activities we did.  I tried scuba diving (fun), snorkeling (also fun), and surfing (fun, but I was paranoid about sharks and things I couldn't see, fish, seaweed, etc., touching me).  The Hawaiian luau and a trip to the Polynesian Culture Centre were nice and offered glimpses into Hawaiian and Pacific Islander culture.  We also went to see the USS Missouri Memorial, the USS Arizona Memorial, and toured the USS Bowfin submarine also at Pearl Harbor.

It is now almost 3am.  I don't want to make a habit of staying up into the wee hours of the morning, so I'm going to head to bed and continue my catch up posts over the next few days.  Hopefully I'll get everything updated before I leave for my mission trip on Monday, but I need to keep priority on the four (FOUR!! O_O) scholarship essays I need to finish writing in... oh noes... four days.  Looks like the wee hours and I may get very well acquainted after all.
